What You Need To Know About Shooting Hearing Protection


Whenever you use a firearm, it is absolutely essential that you have some kind of shooting hearing protection.  Your ears are extremely sensitive to the loud noises that occur whenever your gun is fired.  Too much noise and your ears can be permanently damaged.  However, there are some ways for you to protect your hearing while you are hunting or out practicing on the shooting range.   

When you are firing your gun, your hearing can be damaged almost immediately unless you have protected it in some way.  All guns have different pressure levels at different times and some are more dangerous than others.  The first time you use your gun you may only experience ringing in your ears.  However, the next time you’re shooting, there is a strong likelihood that you will actually lose some of your hearing.

If you are a person who does high velocity shooting, then you are wise to use additional protection.  Try putting ear plugs in your ears before putting on your ear muffs.  This combination provides excellent extra protection for your ears.  Professional shooters generally want even more protection than this.  There are electronic ear muffs that offer the absolute best in shooting hearing protection.  There are some models that amplify the sound of animals for hunters and, at the same time, shut off the sound if a loud noise occurs.  They are programmed to go back to the amplification mode when the loud noise dissipates.
